I liked the colors too.You are very good at choosing colors.And about the background you can darken the sides and make the visitors eye focus on the center,so that the characters pops out.That's a way I have learned from Aaron Sims.He is great at popping out characters from the flat canvas..For the bg use a little less detail grunge bg and adjust its levels to fit in.
